An in-depth exhibition at Sapienza celebrating Martin Luther King - the icon of the Civil Rights Movement An in-depth exhibition at Sapienza celebrating Martin Luther King - the icon of the Civil Rights Movement =========================================================================================================== CIVIS Highlights 2 dicembre 2025 SUR is hosting a powerful exhibition dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr., exploring his life, his enduring legacy, and the profound significance of his struggle for civil rights. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the global impact of King’s fight for equality and to discover how his message resonated in Italy, inspiring conversations on justice, civic responsibility, and human rights. ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/03-mlk-foto-di-stefania-sepulcri-3_1.jpg)©Stefania Sepulcri for SUR Set within Sapienza University’s main campus, the exhibition features an extensive collection of materials - photographs, personal objects, music, film, newsreels, and exclusive interviews - alongside an interactive digital experience called “Dream Builder.” The display is organized into two complementary sections: 1. ***Right to Freedom. Martin Luther King Jr.*** - originally produced by the Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm, this section focuses on the African American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. It introduces visitors to the universal struggle for human rights and social justice—an ideal championed by Martin Luther King that remains as relevant today as ever; 2. ***Martin Luther King, Jr. and Italy*** - developed through a scientific and cultural project led by Sapienza, this section presents previously unpublished materials illustrating how King’s powerful message was perceived in Italy during the 1950s and 1960s—an aspect of Italian history rarely explored in such depth.
